Richie Havens - Love is Alive August 2008

Richie Havens recorded August 9, 2008 at the LL Bean Concert Series in Freeport, Maine. The series is a small, free admission outdoor venue within the LL Bean complex and features some outstanding musicians. It goes without saying that Richie was most excellent, particularly on this well-known Gary Wright tune. I'm sorry I don't have the entire song on video, but this ought to suggest the depth of his art.

My pleasure. Richie is like the Eveready Bunny, he just keeps right on going year after year. I saw him first time in '69 and although his voice doesn't seem quite as strong now, there's still more energy on stage than with most much younger performers. Meet him if you haven't yet (after a performance he generally "hangs out" with the audience)-- he's the nicest guy you could hope to meet.
