This performance took place March 10 1993. On August 23 Edwina died of a heart attack at the Barn Theater while preparing for a show in Augusta, Mich. She was 42. In a bizarre twist both The New York Times and Variety confused her with actress, Margaret Klenck, who also lived in New York City, and played a character named Edwina Lewis on "One Life to Live". The "real" Edwina Lewis appeared in Broadway productions of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" with Kathleen Turner and "A Streetcar Named Desire with Alec Baldwin and Jessica Lange," and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." She originated the role of Sister Mary Hubert in Nunsense and appeared in other musicals such as Let My People Come, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Dreamgirls She appears on the Original Cast recording of Nunsense and is credited with Ensemble/Other Roles on the Best Little Whorehouse In Texas Cast Album. This may be the only other surviving record of her of her wonderful voice and personality. She was loved and is missed
Thanks so much for posting this. Edwina was an amazing performer and I was lucky to have seen her in Nunsense many times. She called me when I was down and out at one point and helped me through it. What an amazing woman...she is missed!
