He meant to say "buttons" in step 8. Instead of Scale and Opacity you can also use Lens Flare Brightness and link it to Range 1 which works too.

Number 8 is confusing me. Can you re-write it to make it clearer?

It´s very easy to synchronize the elements that you see in the the screen with the music in After Effects.
You only need to use a plug-in called Trapcode Sound Keys.
These are the steps:
1-Import the music into After Effects.
2-Drag the music to New Composition.
3-Create a new Solid.
4-Apply to it the Trapcode Sound Keys plug-in. Call the layer Sound Keys.

5-Go to Effects Control: In Audio Layer:Choose your song.
6-Select the effect. You will see the sound waves: Bass, Mids and High. Drag the square to any of them. I chose Bass (Range 1) and Highs (Range 2 -Activate it). Go down and press Apply. This will create a lot of keyframes that represent the beats.
7-Create a new solid. Apply to it: Effects-->Generate---> Lens Flare. In layer mode: Add. Show the Opacity & Scale. (T key and Shift + S). Create a Script. In the watch: Alt + Mouse Click.

8-You will have 2 Spirals bottoms. Show the Sound Keys layer. In its options you can see Range 1. Drag the Opacity and Scale Spiral Bottoms to Sound Keys layer--> Range 1 --->Output 1. (You will link both with a blue line).
9-Repeat the same process with another Solid...Lens Flare... etc, but this time choose Range 2--> Output 2.
10-Click the Ram Preview bottom. You will see now that the lens are synchronized with the music beats.
Good Luck!
