  • The 60 ton mine was a german one. They blew it on 14 May 1916. Some sources say it containe only 50 tonnes. The Explosive used ws Westfalit, not Dynamite. There are about 16km of german tunnels in this small hill and about 8 km of french. I'm a member of the Assosiation Les Amis de Vauquois et de sa région. This is the organisation that takes care of Butte de Vauquois and preserves, excavate and organice guided tours of the site.
