That sediment is not pure MnO2, it contains a significant amount of elemental iodine.

Both methods are pretty bad in terms of impurities! However, in this case the only considerable impurity is the iodine - from a Battery, it could be any number of things.

i konw it isnt....becouse of that i did wash the sediment with ethanol...

i dont know exactly...but it is not very very important....it need sto be ratio betwen reactants 50:50...and you add about the same ratio of water...
