Pink salmon spawning in the Tsolum River of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. Video taken around 9am; about 2 hours after sunrise. In 2009 the Tsolum River and its tributaries are experiencing the biggest run of pink salmon in many years. In the 1960's there was a copper mine upstream which has been leaching copper sulfate into this watershed ever since and affecting the ecosystem downstream. A multi-million dollar project is currently underway to cap the mine site to prevent oxygen and water from combining with the old, abandoned copper material.
