The Plan8 Podcast E3 Expo 2009 Coverage - Sony E3 Press Event PS3 Motion Control Tech Demo

While at the Sony E3 Expo 2009 Press Event Dr. Richard Marx and Dr. Antony Mikhaeloff were introduced on stage by Sony Entertainment Company of America CEO, Jack Tretton. Dr Marx and Dr Mikhaeloff showed off just the first public tech demo of the new in early research development motion control tracking system for the PlayStation 3 (PS3).

The technology worked with past technology from the playstation3 peripheral, the Sony EyeToy, developed by Dr. Marx. The camera motion tracking incorporated accelerometer enabled control wands similar to the Nintendo Wiimotes. Using both camera motion tracking and the controllers the tech demo showed a far greater level of control than either The Nintedo Wii with the Wii Motion Plus or the Microsoft Xbox demos of the Project Natal. The degree of precision shown in the controls in these videos really makes one's imagination start running with all the possible applications for both game and application development in the future for the PlayStation 3.

i am a PS3 fanboy and guess what i agree with you. Natal tracks better than the PS eye but if you think that the PS eye and PS3 can't do voice and face recognition then you are wrong because it can and has done it already. the wand is also 1:1 and natal is still laggy but they have time to fix it but tracking body movements and applying them to a avatar is not simple but if done right its great but done like it is now and it will suck. so if you are going to say natal will be better explain why.
