I've given this short section the title. The first edition of this book (from Counterpoint) appeared in 1990, but a new expanded edition appeared this year: if you like this passage, you may want to get the new edition. Although I'd read the book long ago, I'd forgotten about this passage until a yoga instructor named Erin read it to a class. Thanks to her. Photo of Snyder from Syracuse Univ.
