This video is very helpful Duane. I've watched it several times and then tried your method. I have an aerobic septic system. After living here 2.5 years (a new house, 3 occupants), I'm measuring 12" of scum mat and I don't really feel any sludge before hitting the bottom. There is no water above the scum. The operating level is about 4'-6" with the scum approximately 6" or so from the cap. Does this all sound normal and acceptable? Thank you for posting this video!
you could tell he couldn't wait for the camera to stop to take those gloves off and wash his hands! ha ha ha ... dude, relax, it's only a little poopy!
maxx597 - 2-3 yrs is bull, the rate of accumulation is the only determining factor. It's called an effluent filter and they are a fairly new (10-15yrs) product. The baffles - one: prvent scum from entering the distribution field and - two: help prevent the mixing and re-suspension of seperated material. Tanks have operated in this way for over 100 yrs. The only problem I have is 99% of tanks have two chambers and the inlet chamber would have the most accumulation? Why was it not inspected?
