Though largely unknown in America, The Reynolds Girls were a British vocal duo, famous for their hit single "I'd Rather Jack" which peaked at number 8 in April 1989 on the UK Singles Chart. It remained on the chart for 12 weeks. Comprising sisters Linda (born in 1971) and Aisling (born in 1973), they were signed to the PWL record label after giving Pete Waterman a demo tape. Their single was produced by Stock Aitken and Waterman.

The sisters grew up in Liverpool and were of Irish descent.

"I'd Rather Jack" started out as a response to music critics who ignored the younger pop acts in the UK at the time, and to radio DJs who continued to play older bands on their playlists rather than Stock Aitken and Waterman songs. It was also a response to a perceived snub at the Brit Awards, where SAW acts lost out to more "mature" acts such as Enya and Steve Winwood.

Contrary to the reference regarding Fleetwood Mac in the lyrics, both sisters were big fans of Stevie Nicks. The music video was shot on location in Liverpool and London in the early Spring of 1989, showing what 80's excess was all about. Enjoy!

  • Great song. The line "I'd rather jack than Fleetwood Mac" stayed in my mind ever since then. The piano part (typical Korg M1 stuff) starting at 1:58 reminds me of another great song from the late 80's...the Blow Monkeys with "This is your life".

  • Brill song
