Well, I just watched that Rio performance & the news ain't good. That's as atrocious a display of guitar playing as I've heard in quite some time. Really, completely amateurish. The only good thing I can say is that I suppose it's at least it's original, because I can't imagine something as boringly bad could have ever been played before. I mean he can barely navigate the neck, employ passing tones, or demonstrate the ability of someone playing for 3 years. Yawn.

@67goldtops Nice sarcasm. I happen to find a lot of emotion in his playing, he's written some of the best riffs in the last 20 years. His soloing style is usually sloppy/dirty but I happen to like it because it doesn't sound like every other guitarist trying to be the best. He has his own style and doesn't try to sound like guys from 40 years ago cause its already done. Listen to Kyuss's "Whitewater" or QOTSA's "You can't Quite Me Baby" live in Rio 2001 (two parter) and tell me he can't play.

Hmmmm. I don't know any players who "jerk off" all over the place. So I suppose I'll simple have to accept that you're the authority on such players. However, any way one looks at it, the simple fact is that Homme can't play. And I'm not a guy who goes for technique, simply for technique's sake. I go for intensity and emotion. Take Chris Whitley's playing, for example. Not a technical wizard, yet he nailed it...

@67goldtops i know you're probably a troll, but whatever. if you're such a high-and-mighty guitar buff you should realize that music is not a competition. no one is doubting SRV had nastier chops than Josh Homme, but a lot of people happen to like his weird style of playing/soloing. also, he's probably like 20 years old in this video and anyone who's a fan knows he was highly influenced by punk music. Not every guitarist has to jerk off crazy blues scales all over the place to be appreciated.

Wow Josh Homme outshadows Bruno in every aspect of guitar playing. His sound, his vibrato and his solos are so unique. Bruno of Kyuss Lives sounds like a Youtube Kid compared to him
