Lyrics;
Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train
And I's feeling nearly as faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
It rode us all the way to New Orleans.

I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna,
I was playing soft while Bobby sang the blues.
Windshield wipers slapping time, I was holding Bobby's hand in mine,
We sang every song that driver knew.

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose,
Nothing don't mean nothing honey if it ain't free, now now.
And feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues,
You know feeling good was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

From the Kentucky coal mines to the California sun,
Hey, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul.
Through all kinds of weather, through everything that we done,
Hey Bobby baby kept me from the cold.

One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away,
He's looking for that home and I hope he finds it,
But I'd trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday
To be holding Bobby's body next to mine.

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose,
Nothing, that's all that Bobby left me, yeah,
But feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues,
Hey, feeling good was good enough for me, hmm hmm,
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

La la la, la la la la, la la la, la la la la
La la la la la Bobby McGee.
La la la la la, la la la la la
La la la la la, Bobby McGee, la.

La La la, la la la la la la,
La La la la la la la la la, hey now Bobby now Bobby McGee yeah.
Na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na na na na
Hey now Bobby now, Bobby McGee, yeah.

Lord, I'm calling my lover, calling my man,
I said I'm calling my lover just the best I can,
C'mon, where is Bobby now, where is Bobby McGee, yeah,
Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord
Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee, Lord!

Yeah! Whew!

Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord
Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee.

  • In the 60s I think we took all the explosion of talents for granted. Got them all so fast. But, you could have your kids go to las vegas red carpet. Got lot of 60s there.. thanks for comment..

  • The trajedy is that Janis and Jim Morrison (who I saw in 1967) pushed the envelope "too far". They were incredibly talented and had they eased up on stuff, they might still be with us. It's a lesson we all need to heed. Willie is one of the few that managed to mix all the stuff and still remember he had to stay healthy. Chris was a melodic genius, and well-educated. Janis and Jim lived purely on emotional and physical highs. They both died when they were 27, which I consider a major tragedy.

  • @ownyourfuture1 .. Thats very interesting to hear so many strong memories of her. She really took over the mass of artists in those days. Just an amazing gal.

  • JANIS IS STILL IT!!! AND WILLIE, IF YOU'VE NEVER SEEN HIM, AND GET THE CHANCE, DO IT!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!! HE'S UNBELIEVEABLE!!! MAN, KRIS, JANIS, I HAVE LIVED ME & BOBY MCGEE, MY BOBBY IS IN HEAVEN FAR TOO EARLY,SINGING WITH JANIS I'M SURE!! HE PLAYS THE GOLDEN GUITAR, AND HAS A GOLDEN VOICE!! I LOVE YOU JAMES DANIEL!!! • kris wrote it ... he sang it ... she sang it......who can choose ... both are breathtaking...

  • @chas4551 Are you an idiot? Other than Kris (who wrote it) she personifies this song. how old are you? Do you even know anything about this song? Who sang it better? O ly person I ever even heard come close was Pink...and that was a welcomed shock..

  • I LOVE YOU KRIS, I grew up with you, and was in love with your voice and Music!!!! The along came Janise(PEARL) Wow what a beautiful time to be born and part of this ,,best Music ever!! And yes Your hot!!

  • @ownyourfuture1

Just to comment, in addition to Janis and Jim, both Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain also died at the age of 27.

  • Janis was a pioneer. The wide open blues rocker was a male stereotype. As we have seen again today with Whitney Houston though, drug abuse is no respecter of gender or talent.

  • love both kris and janis's versens of this song can't pick

  • es cierto la libertad es ño mas beñño qie existe .... es magnifico...

  • @ownyourfuture1 Ditto Jimi Hendrix, same age, 1971's third rockstar tragedy.

  • Kris was hot.

  • Shame about the video! Don't know what she's singing on it - bit it's not this song!
