At Bedient Pipe Organ, step two in making pipes is transforming the lead sheets into a structurally stable material. We accomplish this by using a triphammer to compress and stiffen the lead. The beginning of the video shows how the hammered sheet (on top) differs from the sheet directly off of the casting table. Bedient pipemaker Eric Smith shows how he carefully feeds the lead rolls into the hammer to achieve uniform thickness. Visit Bedientorgan.com for more information.
