@fjccommish Ahhh - great question. If your man is setting a screen, you must come out next to his hip - to force the dribbler back into his defender. If you don't hedge/come up and stop the dribbler at the point of the screen, the dribbler can then turn the corner, get a head of steam toward the basket, and put your defense in a heap of trouble.

@Galastin Dear Galastin ..... I would like to thank Utah from the bottom of my heart for allowing us to get Boozer . I couldn't have thought of a better present. I had no idea that people in Utah like people in Chicago so much .
Thanks,
Love , A Bulls fan from Boston

That is why I sayd I agree with some of what you said . I agree with your individual analysis of this game pertaining to the specific things that happened in this game. Your over-all assumption that Noah doesn't know how to play D is unsubstantiated. Also the idea that Derrick Rose's shooting form is abnormal is something I also disagree with . But I enjoyed the video . And will watch further ones if you have them.

Good stuff,
Unfortunately Booze will not improve his hedge. His defensive presence in general is non-existance. (He will get a decent amount of steals and boards). I feel bad for Chicago. The jazz are much better off with Jeff.

@bballbreakdown If he was Joakim you would let him play for you. Be honest now Coach. You know as well as I do that Joakim isn't out there to shoot. Any offense you get from him is a bonus. He's a decent defender and rebounder. That's all you need to be to be valuable and you know he's valuable. I like what you said about not having extra movement in your jump shot. When I was playing, I had a ridiculous jump shot and it was just a snap of the wrist at the top of the jump. Interesting stuff.

That took some guts to call Noah a 'decent shooter', percentage wise you're right. It blows my mind when I watch it go in with some consistency. Chicago will be good.

@chipsmet Believe me, I can't stand to see someone shoot like that and I would never let anyone play for my team if that's what his form looked like.

Hey Coach Nick, I love your breakdowns.
That said I think you made a grievous mistake analyzing the Chicago pick n roll (PNR) defense. At ~2:07 you blame Noah for a bad rotation. You also say the Bulls dont want Noah to hedge. That is not completely true. No the Bulls dont want Noah to hedge like teh Spurs used to do where the screeners man would come out real high and play the ball parallel to the sidelines. What they want is for the screeners man to half hedge-half contain.

@honestgabe88 All I can tell you is that there really isn't a half hedge - either you hedge high-on-the-hip or you don't. And statistics show that whenever you let the dribbler turn the corner on a P & R, the offense scores much more often. That said, they want to contain Dwight Howard and not let him roll hard to the hoop. So they want him to sink - I think that's the grievous mistake you're talking about.

Ummm....... I agree with some of what you were saying and I disagree with most of what you said .... Noah plays good defense ... everyone has some type of problem that you could point out with what they do ..... no one is perfect .... and Boozer will get it together don't worry ... The bulls will be ok .... it is a long season ....

@RushLimbaughsleftear Hey, this is a breakdown of this game. I'm not saying Boozer won't get it together and start playing well - I'm just saying he shouldn't have gotten out there with just a few days of practice against the 2nd best team in the East. Looks like he played better last night already....
