As of June 2011, USDA says, Georgia allows only a small shovel, pan and a handheld sluice in National Forests and Parks, not state parks(not allowed). It's best to know someone with land in N.Ga Mtns. then you can use more equipment.
P.S. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on the roadside stores that say "pan Fer Gold" etc... They dig up river dirt and place gold flakes in the bags themselves... (the gold flakes are purchased from China)

That is awesome, you are a good prospector. Some day I would love to prospect for gold like you do.

.I live in Indiana. How many place are there around the loud mine that are open to the public to look for gold? I have a home made highbanker-dredge that we use, and would love to come to Georgia to look for gold.

That looks fun. I’m heading to Buchanan Sunday 20th. I finally got my sluice box and can’t wait to try it out.

Wildirishman21,
I suggest you jojn the GPAA for a year, and hook up with a buddy experienced gold prospector and go out with & learn from him. Best to not waste time or get discouraged before you get the basics down.

Brandywine68,
Well, it's a little harder than you might think to prospect Georgia. Most land is private property. The Loud Mine is a LDMA property, so you need to be a member or guest, as I was. The WEGM (weekend gold miners) have a club & claims, but kinda pricey to join. The GPAA has 1 claim at Buchanan, GA, where I go. The Nat Forests are 1 hand pan/1 shovel at best. N. Carolina is more user friendly. Google up gold panning N. Carolina. Randy C-17A triple w (dot) goldadventures (dot) biz
