I recall reading an account of this incident in a TV guide retrospective. The author said that the reason the refrigerator wouldn't open on first cue was that the producers had to keep it locked to keep staffers from raiding it. Someone forgot to unlock it, Notice how they went in for a close up and when the camera zoomed back, the door was open. The TV Guide editor mocked the Westinghouse tag line by using the headline, You Can Starve if it's a Westinghouse.
