I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGUIRE THIS PROBLEM OUT EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO.
THE PLUG TO THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR BROKE AND THE WIRE WAS NOT CONNECTED TO ANY OTHER WIRES AND THERE ARE NO OTHER WIRES EXPOSE SO I COULD REWIRE THE NEW PLUG.
ITS A LIGHT BLUE WIRE THAT HAS NO STRIPES AND AM REALLY GOING CRAZY TRYING TO FIND OUT WHERE IT BELONGS TOO.
PLEASE HELP

  • its not that high now as it was before.but on my paseo i believe the idle is suppose to be at 700.rpm and right now its at 2000rpm when cold with the a/c and 1400rpm when warm with the a/c. i really dont want to spend almost 200$ on a new air idle control valve wich i think its whats making my car idle so high....

my next thing to try is to try to get a code and see what it tells me

  • I GOT ANOTHER THROTTLE BODY FROM THE JUNK YARD THAT I CLEANED OUT AND EVEN THO IT NOW IDLES A LIL LOWER ITS STILL NOT UP TO PAR.22OO COLD 1600RPM HOT. MINES IS RUNNING WITH A THERMOSTAT AND I READ SOME WHERE THAT IT COULD MAKE YOUR OUR CAR IDLE HIGHER WITH OUT A THERMOSTAT.

  • someone told me that they had the same problem i have with my paseo.he said that he got a complete throttle body with an IAC valve and that when he replaced it that the idling porblem was gone. so i went to the junk yard and got a throttle body with the IAC valve and cleaned the hell out of it now i am just waiting on the gasket to the throttle body so i could install it.

am glad to hear that you have fixed your idling porblem i hope that when do mines it gets fix. thanks fer the reply

  • no luck so far.

i have changed most ot the sensors like o2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, new ngk spark plug, ngk plug wires and did a vacuum leak check with spraying somecarb choke over the hoses, throttle body inhectors ect... i hace done lots of research and have tryed every thing else you could think of.checking to try to fix this issue and i still have the problem.

all i have left is to take it to a toyota dealer and have them do a smoke vacuum check and a computer diognastic test.

  • it does this when it warms up

  • Make sure that you have no vacuum leaks anywhere. I just went through this with my 96 Paseo as well. I sprayed all of the vacuum lines with brake cleaner until it started to run normal. Turns out I had a bad throttle body gasket. Plus my IACV was no good. Also, check to make sure that the EGR is working properly too :)

  • any luck with the new valve?

  • just make sure you check the rubber lines going into the IAC valve, there is 4 of them. One of mine was cracked and leaking air so I replaced it. If you need new lines you can go the autozone or advanced auto and use 3/8 fuel line, they sell it by the foot behind the counter

  • I have found the problem, it is the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) that is located under the trottle body. I found a forum online that said the valve was stuck. I have a spare engine so I just took the IAC valve from that but I found when switching the valve alot of the rubber lines was cracked so I replaced them as well. I have not had the problem since I changed the IAC valve and replaced the vacuum lines to that valve.

  • ok thanks. if i make any progress i will let you know. i first thought it was a short in the ac system necaise i noticed the ac fan coming on and off with it but i yanked all tje ac fan relays and it did not stop. i started it today and it was fine it just seems to be intermitant on mine.
