Fatal Fury 3 even used 3 planes, but (without trying to bash the game because i really love it) each plane is a single axís and you can only switch between them. But FF3 does offer the feature of circling around the opponent and to slam them into objects in the background, in this case the bitmap 2D fighter is more 3D than the endless and simple Tekken (leave out Tekken 4). I don´t want to persuade somebody to play MK games, i can only say i enjoyed them and consider the controls good/precise.

I do in fact hate all the MK games, 2 was the only one I slightly enjoyed. I agree on the SF2 rehashes though, but regardless the game play was much better. besides I'm more of an SNK fighter fan. and for your information games like Savage Reign, fatal Fury and Real Bout series used 2 axis.

i wonder how a 2D fighter can be more in your face than a 3D fighter....3D fighters are almost always also 2d because fighting takes place on just one axis. seems like you hate all mortal kombat games...i on the other hand hate capcom´s reuse of the same game over and over again. how many versions of SF2 were released for the full price? In MK (at least the first 3) you always got a new game. And there were more differences between the fighters as you put it in terms of reach, speed etc.
