Payton: Cleft lip/ Palate Surgery

Payton was born with a bilateral cleft lip/palate . She has a complete cleft on one side and an incomplete cleft on the other side of her lip. This video is a compilation of the stages of her surgery results. She has had 2 cosmetic surgeries by the age of one to fix her lip. Recently, she had a z-plasty (cut out her palate, reshaped it, then placed them back in her mouth) performed on her to fix her speech problem. Unfortunately, it made it worse and the doctors told me that that has never happened before and he has been performing these surgeries for over 30 yrs. She recently received another surgery to fix the last one. It was a pharengeal flap (cut out tissue from the back of her throat and stretched it out to close out the gap in her mouth). Before she could have the flap done, she had to have her tonsils removed. The results were much better.

@kelleyminor I'm so glad it helped you. Your post reallu touched me and my husband. I hope your daughters' surgeries went well. I know how hard it is. It never gets easier. My husband and I cried everytime they took her away for surgery, but it helps knowing that she is in good hands.

@mzcashmere87 Hi, she will have a bone graph in 1-2 years. They are waiting for certain adult teeth to grow in first. They will remove some bones from her hip, crush them, then fill in her gumlines with them. My daughter had 2 surgeries by the age of 1. She had three last year. She will be 7 this summer. She will also eventually have jaw surgery and other cosmetics performed when she is in high school.
