Cherokee Nation-Paul Revere and The Raiders
They took the whole Cherokee Nation
And put us on this reservation
Took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife
They took away our native tongue
And taught their English to our young
And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan
Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die
They took the whole Indian Nation
And locked us on this reservation
And though I wear a shirt and tie
Im still a red man deep inside
Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die
But maybe someday when they learn
Cherokee Nation will return
Will return
Will return
Will return
Will return

When I was 8 yrs old my dad took me and my brothers to the record store to buy a 45 for each of us for our birthdays, my brothers bought a Partridge family 45 I bought this one. My dad put his hand on my should and whipsered in my ear, "there's still hope for you young man, well done." I'll never forget that moment with my dad.

Your father sounds like he was before his time and that you were what was needed for todays understanding. I too found myself drawn to this song when it came out. Now I have a Indian school that I donate to regulary.

My Midget league football team were called the Cherokees. We were playing for the championship. Our majorettes done a half time show to this song I remember listening while in the locker room. Needless to say it fired us up and we won the championship! Went on playing with the same guys thru high school and won 2 state Championships! I always remember how this song fired us up!!!
