Discover Sustainability at Sunshine Coast TAFE

Sunshine Coast TAFE's award-winning Sustainability Discovery Centre was visited by another group of award-winners as students from Pacific Paradise School revelled in the multimedia exhibits.

The 33 students, from Years 4-7, are all Sustainability Assistants in the school's impressive environmental program, which won it a 'Froggie' at last year's Sunshine Coast Environmental Council's Sustainability Awards. It was the group's Christmas party, a suitable reward for a year spent managing the schools recycling and organic waste program, and spreading the sustainability message to their peers.

Sustainability Discovery Centre coordinator Dr Sonia Marshall said the young environmentalists revelled in a range of fun, fresh and engaging multimedia sustainability experiences. "They were a great group of students who were really curious and excited about sustainability," Dr Marshall said.

"They lapped up the great atmosphere we've created at the Centre to engage people of all ages in sustainability -- here the walls, floors and furniture are the exhibits, making learning an interactive and fun experience."

Pacific Paradise School business services manager Judy Jenkins said the Centre's messages reflected sustainability programs the students have been undertaking at school. "The students are our Sustainability Assistants and help throughout the year, undertaking recycling and organic waste management activities twice a week," Ms Jenkins said.

The Sustainability Discovery Centre has been designed to develop an understanding of sustainability issues using interpretation -- an educational technique which immerses people in a learning experience.
