Two hippos square up in a ritual confrontation. From NATURE's Hippo Beach, airing on Sunday, September 16th at 8 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings.)

This definitive look at hippos in the wild captures a year in the dangerous life of a hippo family living along the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia. The film follows the fortunes of a "pod" of hippos, featuring a baby hippo, his mother, and his father -- the dominant bull and master of "Hippo Beach."

  • they shower each other with water and dung lol

  • Hippo's are one of the most ferocious animals in the whole world and this ferociousness is multiplied many times over if calves are present.

They kill more humans than any other animal in Africa. They are fiercely territorial and will attack anything, even boats.
