Here Fred and I get a tour and a dissertation of the history of "lagoon town" by a native! He was explaining to us in Italian that in the old days, this town made its money by making salt and transporting it. The region the gentleman was explaining a region, ISTRIA (not Austria) a part of Croatia, where they would ship out salt. Also, he told us on our tour that the Venetians (Venice is north of here) came and tried to burn down and invade Comacchio three different times! They really wanted the salt! Ciao di Comacchio, Italy on Sunday, May 3, 2009. Nowadays, the major industry here in Comacchio is tourism.
ahh I would love to travel there...

Kathleen, you crack me up. He points and says some things in Italian, and you're like HMMM, hmmm. (which is what I would say if I hadn't a clue as to what he was talking about)
