Drawing upon John Steinbeck's classic 1945 novel about Monterey's famous "Cannery Row" and the people who work there, this short piece explores both the past and present of Monterey and Carmel a beautiful place where fishing remains an important part of the economy, along with tourism.

The creative choice was to film as many scenes as possible in the foggy early morning hours in hopes of discovering what happens before most tourists and locals sip their first cup of coffee of the day - this is the Monterey I most wanted to discover.

The film was shot entirely with the Canon T2i/550D. Almost all scenes were captured with the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. Color grading was done using Final Cut Pro and Magic Bullet Quick Looks.

  • Thanks for the nice comment, yeah it's a nice lens...of course you are zooming with your feet and on a T2i it functions more like an 80mm but you learn to compensate and can end up with some very beautiful shots.
