Hey Lauren, I'm a horn player who started in 2007, when this video was made. I assumed you were a beginner when this video was made? 5th grade? But anyways, I'd like to know if you still play horn, because that would be really cool to see how you have grown as a player. Just a thought, if you still play, would like to see a new video. Thanks, but give her a break. Playing for 7 mo.-the horn weighs more than her. Shes got time to perfect her posture. We'll try twisting the horn and putting the bell on her leg. While she does have tremendous arm strength for a kid her age (see gymnastics videos) its a bit much to ask at this point for perfect posture. We're very proud of her, considering she hasnt had anything in the way of individual lessons-just part of the school combined band instruction 1x a week.

Good playing.  My son's teacher would have stopped her right away to sit up correctly.

our high school band director would rip our heads off if he saw us playing with that posture jk but she did pretty good though!

she is so adorable but i think she should sit up straight its cutting off her breathing and she cant look at her music very well . but other than that shes great !!

That sounds really good. Someody needs to tell that poor baby to put the rim of the bell on her knee so she can get some air in that horn. She has a beautiful sound and with a little better posture she'd be rockin that horn in a few years. I'm not criticizing I just recognize that talent, unrefined is often lost. She'll be great one day with some training. It's impressive she could make it sound like that with that posture.

why are you playing down on your knee like that? it squishes your diaphragm and cuts off your air, maiking tone bad.

Agreed. When I was that age I probably wasn't much better that that. Cut her some slack.

I do not have a device that will record a video of me playing my horn, and I would not waste my time doing such things from a stranger in the first place. Yes, my comment had no positive things in it, but it was hard to bring up something positive to type up. However, I for one, know how difficult playing this instrument can be. It is absolutely not easy to learn how to play the horn at all, and, as stated by Trumellotonium, this inadequate playing position may of been taught by the teacher.

i disagree. i am in beginning band but not for long. i am playing stuff much harder and complex. look, out of all of the kids in band at my school i made 1st chair in wind symphony which is the best band i can make and remember, i am only in 6th grade. and i play french horn.
