As details of the health care destruction acts continue to emerge from behind closed doors in Congress, one thing is glaringly clear: Virginia will get screwed.

Mark Warner and Jim Webb could both learn a thing or two about how to not put out on the first date from Nebraska's Ben Nelson. When Governator Schwarzenegger says "Nebraska got the corn, and California got the husk", he left out states like good old Virginia. We got husked, too.

Now, these aren't Republicans who have to decide between keeping their ideology and working the system for maximum benefit to their constituents -- those folks have a tough choice to make. No, these are two dyed-in-the-wool Dems who lacked the brainpower to help their constituents to the best of their ability.

Which sort of sums up the two-party system.

  • The best part was the off the cuff "damn health care bill". That actually made me laugh out loud.

    Twice.

  • Thanks. A friend of mine asked if I was trying to sound like William Shatner when I said "It's like bugs crawling under my skin", so it seems amusement abounds. :)

  • raise yhur hand if u scratched wen u saw dis

  • gee gad - I hope there are thousands and thousands of bugs under you macho male right-wing dumb ass repubicans

  • before i had kids, i thought my parents where dumb.. after i had kids, i know they are far more smart than i am. grandparents even more so. odd how kids do that to you. so i've learned to look to my elders for knowledge, this includes elders of the community and my own family. cheers.

  • I think you're right on the money about the decline in the quality of education, and the strong capacity for Congress to effectively undermine the Constitution on a regular basis. It's an unfortunate realization -- but if it spurs us to stand up and tell truth to power, then it's a valuable one!

  • after talking with Elders of my community, those who when they went to school, the consitution was required reading, that you maybe correct in what youre saying in reguards to artical 1 section 8. .. so i appologize. and true, that its not a simpe issue, i believe in that respect the senate knows best to avoid simple problems and know how to complicate things to where it could work out in anyones favor. working in the gray areas is their speciality.

  • Your quote of Article 1, Section 8 doesn't include taxes as something which must be uniform. So if taxes can be unequal, why can't unfunded mandates like "go get health care"?

My point isn't that I disagree with you, but that I don't think the issue is as simple as you posed it.

My sense is the mandate requiring citizens to enter into a contract with a private company is unique...and well outside the bounds of constitutionality on those grounds, but that'll take quite some time to figure out.

  • theses are created to forbid the senate from favoritisim amung states, for if they did, it could cause a Cival war!

  • try Artical 1. section 8.. and i quote

"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States"

further artical 4 section 2 and i quote

"The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States."
