The most interesting thing in this video is that he was speaking of the Vietnam War as not win-able when the number of dead Americans soldiers were 500. Our government finally came to that same conclusion years later, at which point the American body count was more than 50,000!!

For sure, that is a lesson for today in Iraq. How many more must die when the hopelessness of a military victory is obvious?

Yeah, Raymond Massey, a real American from Toronto :)

Curious how this ad is actually an anti-war ad. Not "let's fight to win", but "let's get the hell out". Given that the VN was was very much a proxy war against the Soviets, I want to know: how much of this was pandering? How much of this was just trying to counteract the image of a crazy war mongerer? I remember the Goldwater of the 70s and 80s who seemed far from one.

What's the deal?

Goldwater is misunderstood. Today, he would be a Libertarian. He would be against the War in Iraq.
He was for civil rights, not civil wrongs.

there are none.. using Logic and critical thing nowadays is a complete contradiction of our "values". Freedom is just a word. This is why I now (like Bill Maher) wave the 13star flag in front of my house. Because I believe in America the way it was founded.. not what it has become.

Goldwater wouldn't have dragged us into the mess in Iraq; if that's "nuts", then I'll take it over Bush.

1964 Goldwater would have already had victory in Iraq
