Hmm personally I prefer the following election system... you vote for your politicians every 2 years...[rarely in my view anyway], and then you vote on the laws directly if an issue has been decided on then it doesn't get voted on again[on that level]. you can still keep all the federalism and improvements made within the parliamentary system though.

What a game-changer IRV could be. Now's a good time for pushing it, too. Definitely a sort of 'rebuilding year for American politics, and what with even the right dissatisfied with their representation.
