Tibetans in Melbourne, Australia are protesting outside the Chinese Embassy. The communist party has just imposed a new national holiday that has caused a lot of distress. Heres the full story from our Melbourne Bureau.
Tibetans and Free Tibet supporters are holding a protest outside the Chinese Embassy in Melbourne. Theyre distressed because the Chinese regime has marked the 28th of March as a day of celebration. Its called Serf Emancipation Day and the regime says it celebrates 50 years of freedom from slavery for the Tibetan people.

In 1959, the Chinese regime overthrew the Tibetan government saying it was freeing 1 million lower-class people from a backward way of life.

But celebration is far from the minds of these protesters here today. Sandoop tsering, president of the Tibetan community here in Victoria shares his view.

[Sandup Tsering, Tibetan Community President]:
This Serf Emancipation declaration is really a cause for future divisions, bringing disharmony into China.

Sandup says that some Tibetans see themselves as second-class citizens in their own country.

[Sandup Tsering, Tibetan Community President]:
Tibetans are basically reduced to the second class citizens in their own land.

A Tibetan youth leader says that the Chinese communist party did not liberate the farmers in Tibet, but destroyed their livelihood. These farmers are the ones who are protesting inside Tibet.

[Tsethar Tenzin, Tibetan Youth Group Leader]:
There are farmers out in the rural countries that the Chinese government came to liberate. Theyre the ones who are actually protesting against the CCP regime.

The new holiday, the Tibetans say is simply propaganda and another attempt by the CCP to re-write history.

[Kunchok, Buddhist Monk]:
I dont blame the Chinese people. I just see that the Chinese government, it is through their thinking they dont think about environmental situation; they dont think about human rights, and they dont feel that humans have value. That is very sad.

The peaceful protests occurring here and throughout Australia have also been taking place in Tibet and across the world.

NTD, Melbourne, Australia.

  • China must return lands it robbed to Tibetans, Uyghurs and Mongols. China must return Paracel Islands it took from South Vietnam by force on 01/19/1974 and 6 reefs & atolls of the Spratly Islands it took from Vietnam by force on 03/24/1988. China = Nazis of Asia = land robbers, sea pirates. Remember China supported and aided the Khmer Rouge that killed 2 million Cambodians. China killed prisoners for organs harvest, ate fetuses, ran tanks over their own students in peaceful demonstrations.

  • China must end its expansionism policy. China signed the UNCLOS & must abide by the laws like everyone else. China thinks it is a big country and can bully small countries around. When the US gets involved, then China starts crying it's a regional matter. US is 95% of China's market, the US gov. just raises tariffs 100% on all China's goods since US export to China is so modest. China economy will crumble, not to mention its dream of becoming a superpower. China copies everything illegally.
