Tim O'Brien is a Vietnam War Veteran. The book is wonderful and the Podcast clips I will post are very good, read by Dylan Baker.
O'Brien feels that the idea of creating a story that is technically false yet truthfully portrays war, as opposed to just stating the facts and creating no emotion in the reader, is the correct way to clear his conscience and tell the story of thousands of soldiers.

@rmolin88 Good, you're welcome. I went to see the author, Tim O'Brien, last year in North Dakota. He did a reading from The Things They Carried @UND, and discussed it in front of the audience, was really cool.
