He's not insane, just a minority of one. A harmless eccentric. I've met people in my time with odd ideas about existence and the universe and they're entitled to their personal beliefs. When a famous person comes out with odd beliefs, and writes books on them, they will be thought of as crazy. The danger, however, is when they attract a cult following. That's another matter.

This guy suffers from some sort of narcisistic personality disorder and delusions of grandeur which compel him to believe his is in some way important or special. Blowing the whistle on the secret services (believing he was in some way special and entitled to break his oath of silence) was just the first symptom of his illness. It has now progressed to a Messiah complex. Sad case.
