Within a single generation, digital media and the World Wide Web have transformed virtually every aspect of modern culture, from the way we learn and work to the ways in which we socialize and even conduct war. But is the technology moving faster than we can adapt to it? And is our 24/7 wired world causing us to lose as much as we've gained?

In Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, FRONTLINE presents an in-depth exploration of what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. Continuing a line of investigation she began with the 2008 FRONTLINE report Growing Up Online, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin embarks on a journey to understand the implications of living in a world consumed by technology and the impact that this constant connectivity may have on future generations. "I'm amazed at the things my kids are able to do online, but I'm also a little bit panicked when I realize that no one seems to know where all this technology is taking us, or its long-term effects," says Dretzin.

  • I don't agree personally with the dumbing down part, for me multi-tasking has allowed me to seek countless more knowledge, much quicker through the internet, help me become inspired to develop ideas, exc. the digital revolution has only made me smarter and I'd say its the same for many others. Nevertheless if its true that people become less intelligent, is that the biggest issue? morals come first not money, intelligence or abilities.

  • @deanmullen10 We have the illusion that we can multi task but its a fact if you focus on something it becomes more clear. You can not make the conclusion that the digital revolution made you smarter cause you dont know what its like to live without it.

  • @deanmullen10 Although I have to agree with a large portion of what you said, however, a higher level of intelligence allows us to see our morals more clearly.

  • Nice documentary, it´s all about how to spend your time and also to be disciplined and focused on what you believe is important in my opinion :) - I am more in Virtual Worlds than Facebook which i believe will not exist in a few years because of the transparency of privacy... cheers

  • @mindinflow Well I understand your point, but I do feel that I learn more through the internet then I would through books. But maybe you mean it from a different point of view, in terms of the idea that people can become more lazy when they can do things so much easier, is that what you mean?

  • lol i plan to go into a career in social media or photography. but very interesting. have to watch for class

  • scary

  • @ogrish84 lol

  • @planetchinchilla We will eventually have a ruler that either forbids all mental or physical ailment patients to reproduce or kill them or something along those lines. It is pretty crazy!

  • What's going to happen to people with disabilities and they can't learn new technologies or multi task?? What's going to happen their futures in the workworld? This is sick it's like a new additction a drug that everyone does..shutters at the fact).
