On Likiep Atoll in the Marshall Islands, as at most coral atolls I imagine, the currents can really whip in and out of the lagoon between the small islands that make up the atoll. One of our fun things to do is beach the dinghy on the lee side of the island and walk around towards the windward side. Then we swim into the current in our snorkel gear and let the current push us through the pass at a screaming 2 to 4 knots kicking only to influence the direction we re swept or to temporarily hold position. One really fun thing to do is grab onto a big rock and see how long you can hold on while the current pulls at you. I hope this video gives you the sensation of traveling on. Remember, all this motion is by the force of the current.
This is a good sample of What We Do All Day
