In 1820, the Danish scientist Hans Christian Oersted (1777-1851) discovered that there was a relationship between electricity and magnetism. While preparing for a lecture, he noticed that a compass deflected from the magnetic north when a current-carrying wire was placed near the compass. He concluded that electricity produced magnetism. He used Alessandro Volta's (1745-1827) battery. After 11 years of Oersted's discovery, Michael Faraday (1791-1867), building upon Oersted's discovery, discovered that magnetism could produce electricity. The works of Volta, Oersted and Faraday paved the way for understanding the nature of electricity.
fakkin awesome börje!

"Grasping" the conductor with your Left thumb pointing in the direction of Electron Flow shows Oersted's magnetic flux. "Grasping" the conductor with your Right thumb pointing in the direction of Conventional Current also shows Oersted's flux. Thanks for posting!
