When a pet needs a blood transfusion it isn't always so easy to get fresh blood for an emergency life saving procedure. Countryside has developed its own employee pet blood donor program where 6 employee dogs donate their blood every 6 months in order to keep a fresh supply of blood on hand in case of an emergency. This is a short documentary showing "Daisy" donating her blood to the program.

  • We are able to store whole blood for thirty days, but can only rely on it for clotting factors for eight hours. Our donors are all over fifty pounds, and we have never had any problems related to hypovolemia after removing 400-450mL of blood: there are rare reports of it in the literature. Thank you for your interest in our video, and for all you do with the Red Cross!

  • I work for the American Red Cross, and we take the same amount from people using the same bags. I'm just wondering how long is the storage of the animal blood before it goes bad? Aslo doing this do you guys ever get dogs that have reactions (passing out) ? Keep up the good work !!
