It's amazing how fast technology is progressing, things are becoming obsolete weeks after they have been conceived.
The face of technology has changed so much through the years. Back in the day, you bought something and it was yours to stay for the rest of your life. Today on the other hand, technology has become a 'throw away' good. Built not to last and to be outdated within the year.
So I created this video, this video is proof that just because technology is old, does NOT mean it is obsolete.
This video was created and filmed on an analogue JVC VideoMovie GR-C7U, created in 1987 I believe. It is a VHS-C camcorder and one of the earliest CCD sensor camcorders on the market.
I look at the footage that this camera produces and it just yields to me this wonderful, vintage, nostalgic quality that is now lost in so many cookie cutter cameras today.
What I mean by cookie cutter is that with so many HD camcorders and DV camcorders on the market, they all tend to look so exact and so perfect, you can't tell one from the other apart and SO many people are using them that every video or film produced seems to also look the same....
Think about it this way, if a person handed you a golden rose every day, it looses its value, both sentimentally and fiscally.
Take a step back and see a real rose, I guarantee they are not perfect and because it isn't you will enjoy its uniqueness more.
And that is my point, to have imperfections is to have perfection; a natural zen. So I say this to the digital 'all or nothing' realm of cameras and development, please, enjoy your golden roses while I see the world with a true eye.
Also, in regards to the short film I compiled, I set it to theme songs of popular TV shows back in the 80's and 70's, I hope you can recall a few of them.
Also, as a bit of history, the JVC VideoMovie camcorder was used by Marty Mcfly in the film Back to the Future.
Songs:
Airwolf
Knight Rider
Doctor Who
Quantum Leap
Battlestar Galactica
Red Dwarf
This short film was shot entirely on VHS
R E T
Awesome video!!Knight Rider - Best TV theme ever!! Takes me back. I have this exact camcorder and it works great. Also have the Panasonic version which was very similar and blue in color.

Thank you so much!
I loved all of these shows when I was kid and still do!
something timeless about them, even now as I watch them I can still thoroughly enjoy them!
The JVC is an interesting camcorder, it caught my eye when I was recording with it, its color replication, contrast and f-stop is very strange, not seen in ANY camcorder today. Same with the panasonic's design you mentioned.
So glad you enjoyed it, I have a new film called the Janitor shot with the same camcorder too!

Its the way the image is translated. Love the old and the rare, and the throw back! You are right about the throw away aspect. I think my sonycam is old, but cant graduate to HD, because i fear something newer and better in a few years! Great vid

I too love the old and the rare!
No point in graduating to HD, 1080p is quickly becoming outdated with an even LARGER format, I think it's all just silly at this point. A camera is a camera. It's what you can DO with it that matters most! =)
