The Smiling Buddha was the first nuclear test explosion by India on May 18, 1974 at Pokhran.
The fully assembled device had a hexagonal cross section, 1.25 m in diameter and weighed 1400 kg. The device was detonated at 8.05 a.m. in a shaft 107 m under the army Pokhran test range in the Thar Desert, Rajasthan. Officially the yield was reported at 20 kilotons.
Indian design was simpler and less sophisticated than the American system. The 6 kg of plutonium came from the CIRUS reactor at BARC.
The crater produced by this detonation of a plutonium implosion device has been reported to have a radius of 47 meters with a crater depth of 10 meters.
Test: Smiling Buddha
Time: 8:05 18 May 1974 (IST)
Location: Pokhran, Thar Desert, Rajasthan, India
27.095 deg N, 71.752 E
Test Height and Type: Underground, -107 m
Yield: 8 - 20 kilotons (less).
The green cylinder which is shown in the video is the SHAKTI-I thermonuclear device being lowered into the test shaft which was one of the 5 bombs detonated on of five nuclear devices, three on 11 May and two on 13 May 19. IT was a great Success Because were were able to FOOL AMERICAN INTELLIGENCE. Due to Pokhran-II American Government refuse Visa to our Indian Scientists. And theBroken houses showen in video were to hide the test site.Since we detonated them underground due to intense heat the sand got converted in to glass and prevented nuclear wast to mix with underground water reserves

  • We aren't in an arms race with anyone. Whatever arms we make is soley for security purposes. Unlike u guys, we aren't obssesed with an act of making false accusations and using that as an excuse to make more arms and what not.
