This Blackbean ~ Castanospermum australe was planted in Ingham North Queensland to commemorate the relief of the siege at Mafeking in 1900, amongst the 3rd Contingent Queensland Mounted Rifles was Private Jack Simpson the son of the Ingham Postmaster. despite its small stature the tree is approximately 120 years old...certainly makes an interesting benchmark specimen for other Blackbeans of much greater girth in the same region.
