31st Jan 2009: This is the first fare-paying passenger run (a private charter for the covenantors) of the new A1 class steam locomotive Tornado (which took 18 years to build). Seen here just south or Darlington on the run from York to Newcastle with the "Peppercorn Pioneer" train. See my latest clips for the Tornado's first run on a public charter, The Talisman from Darlington to Kings Cross, on which I was a passenger. See my other steam vids too :)

  • I was there that saturday to see Tornado go past as it headed towards Darlington i was with my mate in the white Landrover Defender!

  • It was a cold, cold day, but well worth it, never expected my shakey video to be 40,000 hitter. (I was using the tripod for the stills camera at the time)

  • tresspasser in the red?

  • Yes indeed.

  • Fab clip, thanks for posting it. I'll be on route on Saturday when she passes through south of england, Can't wait its going to be amazing to see her in the flesh at last. Thanks again

  • Cheers, glad you like it, hope you have a good time :)

  • I am old enough to remember these stunning engines lined up to be scrapped, to see one in full steam hurtling down the track again . Is nothing short of a miracle . & is a credit to all involved,They have recreated a piece of histoy for every one to share & enjoy.

  • there are details on the trust's website, jus search for a1 tornado trust. then look at 'travel with tornado for info on the tours and the companies running them. most tickets will likely be £50-80 per adult

  • Excellent shot and whistle

  • What ruins the image is the electric pylons, bring it to the GW Line!

    Beautiful sight nonetheless!

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • @AT02852 But it ain't an old steamer, she is brand new!

  • For an old steamer it sure is quick.

  • It would be awesome to see this locomotive run in person. I saw the UP 3985 Challenger a long time ago and would really like to see it again.

  • Man, she's highballin'!! That's why we need more trains like that in America...

  • brings a tear to the eye of an old romantic

  • @pugwashsecond

    Cheers, mate.

  • @keikoandgilly Agreed - take care
