1) It is relevant as it explains the entire history of the royal family.
2) I said it was IMPLIED that Zelda is his sister, not that it was fact.

How gullible do you have to be to take that old rumor as fact?
Straight from the original script:
お、お前は、姫の … …。
"Y-you are, the princess's..."
I think the most likely ending would be "only hope." Or perhaps even "guardian" (the original name of the Knights of Hyrule. You'd think he would want Link to know about his secret heritage).

No, Zelda is not Link's sister, that was Evil Dan coming out that day - for all the non-NP readers who don't know who Dan Owsen (and his alter ego "Evil Dan"), he did all the English localizations/translations for Nintendo of America throughout the 90s. He'd occasionally make stylistic edits (much like Ted Woosley of Square Enix fame).
Anyway, /nerd off... I'm glad I got to hear more about the story behind this costume after seeing the pic.
