Lightning Over the Las Vegas Strip

Time lapse of several storms visible from Las Vegas in 2009. These strikes are actually miles away, but it sill makes for an awsome sight over the Vegas lights. There was no audible thunder for most of these strikes.

I heard that it never technically thunderstorms in Las Vegas only over the mountains due to the "cup or bowl" formation of the valley that Las Vegas is in. A few people explained that if you look at the clouds they are never directly above Las Vegas they are near the mountains. Just wondering if there is any accuracy in this? Beautiful footage, I had the chance of seeing a few thunderstorms and even a sundog here. Beautiful.

@nyxong24 We have at least several destructive lightning strikes somewhere in the valley each year. Trees set on fire, houses damaged, etc. The strikes in this video were all very far away, but we do have thunderstorms that roll directly over the city..
