Economics from 50 Facts that Should Change the World
Jessica Williams
Some Facts - *** Please Note these statistics are out of date but assumed to still be pertinent ***
The purpose of hopefully this sequence of videos is to highlight the complexities of Globalisation. I have the aim of getting those who care to think beyond what I consider to be oversimplified and glib theories about what is wrong in the world.
1(1) THE average Japanese woman can expect to live to 84; her counterpart in Botswana will die at 39.
3(2) ONE in five of the world's population - 1.25 billion people - is undernourished.
14(3) ONE in five people live on less than 50p a day.
15(4) THERE are 44 million child labourers in India, some working 16-hour days.
Essentially Corruption
I see all the forms of corruption mentioned as simply forms of a power struggle!
24 (5)IN Kenya, bribery payments make up a third of the average household budget.
35 (6)A QUARTER of the world's armed conflicts of recent years have involved a struggle for natural resources.

8 (7) EVERY cow in the EU is subsidised by £1.40 a day - three out of four Africans have less than that to live on.
40 (8) THERE are 67,000 people employed in the lobbying industry in Washington DC - 125 for each member of Congress.

  • Yes, my friend, these facts 'should' change the world, except, as you know, we live in a multi-trillion dollar world of corporate propaganda and public opinion control where facts struggle to see the light of day while the ocean of corporate illusions massage the minds of the masses. Thanks for the effort, never give up.
