I don't have any tabs for Elliott Smith songs, and I really don't want to tab them myself. All I can do to help you is show a closeup video of how I play a certain song, and I hope that can be clear enough for everyone.

********************************************

This is my first tutorial video for the song "Sweet Adeline" by Elliott Smith. Again, it's a little fast, but I learn the songs by the way he plays them live (CD versions tend to be slower, and in an attempt to not take up a lot of video time, I play it close to the live version's speed).

It shows you how to play the intro riff and the verse, so message me if you have any questions. I hope this helps you play Elliott Smith!

  • I just think it's easier to play that G note on the D string instead of playing an open G. I also think it's just faster to slide to the G. It's certainly not because it sounds wildly different, it's only because of efficiency.

  • typically when you make tutorials, you don't play the song faster than it's actually supposed to be and add flourishes/slides in order to show off.

  • i learned the song by watching a live video of elliott smith, and he plays it this fast, if not faster (the video with him in an 88 shirt). i also mentioned in the info page that it is, indeed, faster than the CD version, but in order to not waste time, i played it fast (because if you're watching a tutorial video, you're probably familiar with how the song goes).

and i don't add any "flourishes" to the song; i only slide to one note in the progression. sorry if that's considered showing off.

  • slow down!

    its not a fast song

  • yeah, i have trouble playing songs incredibly fast on tape because i always think that people will get bored and watch something else...

but you're right, and i apologize for the speed.

  • I thought it was appropriate that it was played fast because it was really just an example before u explained how to play it. and great work! this is the most helpful tutorial iv watched, very easy to follow.

  • thanks buddy! i figured everyone knows how the song goes before they try to learn how to play it, so playing it normal speed would have been a tad boring... thanks for understanding!
