Peter Paul and Mary, Hurry Down Sundown

Lyrics:

My seed is sown now, my field is plowed;
My flesh is bone now, my back is bowed.
Refrain:
So hurry, sundown, be on your way,
And hurry me a sun-up from this beat-up sundown day.
Hurry down, sundown, be on your way;
Weave me tomorrow out of today.
Tomorrow's breeze now, blows clear and loud;
I'm off my knees now, I'm standing proud.
(Refrain)
My sorrow's song, now, just must break through,
That brave new dawn, now, long overdue.
(Refrain)
Hurry down, sundown, get thee be gone,
Get lost in the sunrise, of a new dawn.
Hurry down, sundown, take the old day,
Wrap it in new dreams, send it my way!
Send it my way!
Send it my way!

  • I am writing a trilogy and while I had considered this song for a muse and title of the second installment, I just decided rather that it fits the last chapter of the second installment best. Triumph over all that has happened in the past....death of the old you, but the birth of the new one, in a new place - a better place than before. Thank you for posting, as this is constant background music while I write.

  • @ mjscott09,

    Good luck on your trilogy and I too am quite fond of this song.

    It is among my top favorites for Peter Paul and Mary.

    Let me know when it is done !

  • Always loved this song, ever since sleep-away camp in the 70's. Beautiful melody, harmonies. Especially poignant since the passing of Mary Travers, lovely lady with a lovely voice. Thank you for posting.

  • @ quiksilver1238,

    This has always been one of my favorite songs that they did.

    I am glad you are pleased.

  • OMG... This is from the first Album my mother bought me, before she went to Vietnam to serve in the war... Other Side Of This Life (1966) I listened to this over and over...I loved looking a the photos on the Album.. it looked like they where having such an adventure...I would sit and listen to the album and wonder what my mother was doing over-there..I had no idea at that time just what was really happing RIP .....Mary Travers.

    Thanks for posting....

  • lantash709,
