Nearly two months into the school year, thousands of returning warriors are still waiting for their education benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs; benefits desperately needed to pay for tuition, housing and books. Timely payments have been delayed because of backlogs caused by the new program, the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

  • It's a LOT better now. It takes about a month for the certificate of eligibility and about 6 weeks from the time you are officially registered for class (depending on your region). Students should anticipate this wait by taking out Stafford loans if they haven't applied early enough. You can just pay the loans back once you receive the VA money.

  • I think it's better if you apply by mail. Not sure on this though.
