Can anyone explain why the situation in Somalia was worse off when it was under government control?

@StateExempt You can't get much worse than Somalia today in terms of living standards. It's closing in on Zimbabwe as the world's worst hell hole. Much of it does have it loots in the open waters or gets in the form of humanitarian donations. Starving and persecuted Somalis are fleeing for better lives in states under government control. The only people who like Somalia are anarchists who have never been there.

A very thought-provoking and disturbing video. The governments of the Western nations fail to address public concerns about immigration, creating a massive democratic deficit. I don't believe though that libertarianism would resolve this problem. And as for anarchists being asked to solve this or any other problem, well, words fail me.

@atticana In a way, national survival is a pre-libertarian concern. First, you value existence itself -- the existence of Swedes, even if they support/maintain a bloated welfare state. Dismantling that is of secondary importance.

Half of the youtube anarchists whom I talked with over 2 years ago, are no longer anarchists... Specifically why should I hold the situation in Somalia today to a different standard than Somalia when it was worse off under a government?

I recommend going to fee . org and watching "stateless in somalia" - one of the things mentioned is that the fighting is concentrated in certain areas, typically around the capital where people were fighting over trying to get foreign aid or trying to gain control of the area so that they could become the new state. Other areas were not as violent. In many ways, the standard of living improved after statelessness and the vid goes over some of the data.

But in a way, you're also trying to be "non-conformist" and "cooler" than the rest by minimizing and belittling the beliefs, ideologies and morals of others. Your comment attempts to insult the ideas of others because you yourself notice a trend. So you jump ship and run from trends. You flip-flop a lot. You've always been a bit of a cry baby, though. Somalia has never been a true anarchy. It was run by thugs with guns. An anarchy requires everyone's involvement to adhere to the set philosophy -- my rights end where yours begin -- I respect that.

There are some who like to shackle libertarian anarchism hand-and-foot, boast that it can't escape its chains and use that as support for a statist society. Plus, the Somalia argument has long been since refuted. Anarchism is NOT chaos. HUGE difference.
