A great player & a nice guy as well!

I am just happy that there is a Buddy and Butch to listen to. Why not enjoy them both?

To all the musical illiterates who populate this blog....mentioning Butch Miles in the same breath with Buddy is the height of ignorance and raging stupidity.
Buddy's body of work entitles Butch to lick the perspiration off Buddy's Ball Sack.

Butch is an amazing drummer and a very sweet person. One of my idols since I heard him on the "Basie Big Band" album from 1975. He had just gotten the gig with Basie through Buddy Rich´s recommendation and one of the tracks on the album is "Wind machine". Before that he was Mel Thorme´s drummer. Butch´s playing has gotten slightly more mellow through the years as happens with many drummers. Butch belongs at the top of the list of big band drummers!

@genemz5 buddy is the best drummer to drive a big band, butch is more laid back. to be honest, i like buddy's better, but it is a matter of opinion

I have enough hw to do for physical chemistry; I dont have time to do YT hw too.

@osborl12 the original basie chart is much slower than this..do your homework.
He's no Buddy clone. Buddy could have used a few tips from him. For one, how to really enjoy what you he was doing and not be so pissed when playing. His drums have better tone than Buddy's. I think Buddy smoked too much pot and ruined the type of joy Butch Miles exudes with while he played drums like Fred Astaire did with his dancing shoes. Elegance in action... Relaxed and never trying to outdo himself, like Buddy seemed driven to do too often.
