Thomascows version of The Foggy, Foggy Dew it is a song of English origin. It was published on a broadside around 1815, though there are very many versions: Cecil Sharp collected eight versions. A version of the song makes the encounter as a seduction by the man of the maid, and does not mention the son. This dates from a broadside of 1689: It is thought that The Foggy, Foggy Dew is transcribed from an Irish word for Black Death. Enjoy
