Video showing how I had my natural gas furnace before my 'geothermal' ground source heat pump furnace installed.

I measured power consuption as well to be used a comparison when the GSHP is installed.

Idle: 0.15 Amps (16.5 Watts)
Startup: 2.5 Amps (275 Watts)
Steady state: 1.5 Amps (165 Watts)
Spindown: 0.6 Amps (66 Watts)

  • I have a blog (smellslikefries -dot- blogspot -dot- com) where I put up charts on my natural gas and electricity prices. I'll be putting in an update soon with my latest bi-monthly hydroelectricity bill.

  • @stevecoscia123 It will not lower efficency - but the chimney may rust as the humidity in the exhaust condenses on the cooler pipe (and so it is not to code).

No matter now - my geo-exchange furnace now does not have an exhaust!

  • So, I assume by now you have your Geo installed. How well does it work and are you happy with it? How do the utility costs compare with the old gas furnace?

  • Very kewl stuff - and it doesn't smell like fries!
