I remember Leslie broke my heart in 1985 at the St. James Theatre during the NY run of JERRY'S GIRLS with this number. Sheer Brilliance.

I would have been crying too if I'd been at the Hollywood Bowl that evening and heard Leslie sing this incredible song. Jerry Herman was completely bowled over.

Wow! What a great song, and what a great performer. You felt her anguish as she belted out the music. Leslie Uggams is my contemporary and all i want to say is "You go girl!"
